About the iPhone 16 Plus Unlocked
Released in September 2024, the iPhone 16 Plus is the large-screen version of that year's standard model, with a 6.7-inch display at 1290 x 2796 pixels and a 4438 mAh battery to keep it running through the day. The rear camera is a dual system: a 48 MP wide sensor at f/1.6 for everyday shots and low light, plus a 12 MP ultrawide at f/2.2 for landscapes and group photos. A 12 MP front camera covers video calls and selfies. Wireless charging is the notable step up here, running at 25W over both MagSafe and Qi2, roughly twice the rate of earlier generations. There is 8GB of RAM, a USB Type-C port, and support for both a physical nano-SIM and an eSIM. At 199 g and 7.8 mm thick, it stays reasonably slim for its size.

Things to consider
There are two rear lenses rather than three, so there is no dedicated telephoto and zoomed shots rely on cropping the main sensor. Storage is fixed at purchase, as there is no microSD slot, and there is no headphone jack. The USB Type-C port tops out at 480 Mb/s, which makes moving large video files over a cable slower than the connector implies. At 6.7 inches and 199 g, it is a two-handed phone. Major updates are estimated to end in September 2032, with security patches until September 2034.
Is the iPhone 16 Plus a good buy?
This is the sensible choice for anyone who wants a large screen and long battery life without paying for Pro camera hardware. The 48 MP main sensor covers most of what people actually photograph, the 25W wireless charging is a genuine convenience, and the estimated support window runs close to a decade. Buyers who shoot a lot of distant subjects will miss a telephoto lens. For everyone else, it is a well-balanced phone that should stay current for years.
