Samsung's tablets split cleanly into two ideas. The Tab A line is the practical, affordable one, built for streaming, browsing and being handed to a child without anxiety. The Tab S line is the premium one, with better screens and S Pen support. Both are here, from an 8.4-inch Tab A to a 10.9-inch Tab S10 FE that arrives with its S Pen.
Tab A or Tab S?
Choose a Tab A if the tablet is mainly for watching, reading and light browsing, or if it will live in a car, a kitchen or a school bag. Choose a Tab S if display quality matters to you, since the S5e and S10 FE are a clear step up, or if you intend to write and draw on it. The A9+ sits between the two, an 11-inch screen with Tab A practicality.
What an S Pen actually changes
Handwriting on a tablet only works when the pen is good, and Samsung's is. On a model that supports it you can take longhand lecture notes, sketch, sign PDFs and mark up documents without printing a page. If note-taking is why you are shopping, that narrows the list considerably, and the S10 FE here includes its pen.
Weighing up size, connection and storage
Size first. An eight-inch tablet is a one-handed device, ideal for reading and travelling light. Ten to eleven inches is where films, split-screen and a keyboard case start to earn their keep. Then connection: Wi-Fi models are the simpler choice, while the cellular versions here take a SIM and are unlocked for the major Canadian networks. Storage is the least stressful decision, because most Samsung tablets accept a microSD card. Every unit is inspected, graded and battery-tested, with anything below 83 per cent health replaced, and all of it ships free across Canada with a 90-day warranty.
