What do Qi and Qi2 mean?

Qi, pronounced "chee", is the shared wireless charging standard that nearly every pad on the market uses. Because it is a standard rather than a brand, the same pad will charge an iPhone, a Galaxy and a Pixel. Qi2 is the newer revision, and its headline change is magnetic alignment, so the phone snaps into position instead of being nudged into it. Older pads and newer phones still work together, just without the magnets.

Where does MagSafe come in?

MagSafe is Apple's magnetic ring behind the back glass, introduced with the iPhone 12 generation. It holds chargers, wallets, mounts and grips in place. Earlier iPhones here still charge wirelessly; they simply do not have the magnets.

Is it slower than a cable?

Generally, yes. Wireless charging loses some energy as heat and runs cooler and slower than a good cable. It suits overnight and desk-side charging rather than a quick top-up before you head out the door. Most people keep a cable for the rush and a pad for everything else.
